Freightliners Season Ends with 16-14 Loss

The Truro Freightliners 2011 Football season came to a close Sunday Afternoon, with a 16-14 Tier 2 Semi-final loss to the Dartmouth Destroyers.  The Game featured some fantastic competition and excitement as the teams marched up and down the field.

Truro's offense totaled more than 250 total yards, showed a running game that could not be stopped and took the lead early in the fourth quarter.  It looked like the Freightliners were about to upset the Destroyers, before a pass thrown by QB Alex Upham was intercepted and gave Dartmouth a short field.  Dartmouth capitalized on the turnover and retook the lead with a Touchdown and 2pt. conversion.  (16-14)

On Truro's next drive, another Turnover gave the Destroyers the ball with about a minute and a half to play.  All Dartmouth needed to do was run the clock out, but they tried to gain yards, and the Freightliners forced a fumble and recoverd it at the Dartmouth 30 yard line.  With 40 seconds to play, the Freightliners tried to fool the Dartmouth defense with a long pass, but it didn't work.  Dartmouth picked off the pass and subsequently ran out the clock.

Truro's rushing attack was led by Drew Erskine who gained 134 yards on 20 carries, and Andrew Gibson who gained 45 yards on 19 carries.  QB Alex Upham completed three passes on the day to Tyren Desmond, Jeff Johnson and a 2pt conversion to Skylar Geldart.

Defensive standouts were Lucas Smith, Jeffrey Ramsay who intercepted a pass and Erskine who led the defense in Tackles.
